The basis of the folk story is largely a 300-word poem from the Southern and Northern dynasties (420 to 589) that gives the broad sketches of her life, leaving plenty to the imagination of the storyteller. It’s debated whether Hua Mulan is a historical figure. “If you put a woman with a slender face among tens of thousands of soldiers, I don’t think she would have an easy time,” Ma said. The Hong Kong director said he was looking for an actress who was athletic and well-built enough to be a credible male soldier. Zhao, whose credits include Stephen Chow’s “Shaolin Soccer” and John Woo’s historical epics “Red Cliff” and “Red Cliff II,” is known for her pretty looks but also boyish demeanor that Ma says made her a good fit for the lead role. One of the movie’s shots shows Mulan, played by Chinese actress Zhao Wei, sprayed with blood on her face after killing a general from a foreign tribe invading China. In Ma’s 115-minute movie, which opens in China, Singapore and Malaysia on Friday, gone are the goofy antics of a sidekick dragon voiced by Eddie Murphy and the smooth Broadway-style numbers performed by “Miss Saigon” star Lea Salonga, replaced with the bloody, gritty reality of war. But it doesn’t discuss her deepest emotions,” he said in a recent interview. She can use her wits to solve many of her problems. She’s a little godlike in that she can solve all her problems.

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. If WP:NATURALDAB really does provide a case for the current title (I'm skeptical) then we should fix WP:NATURALDAB rather than follow it in this case. (Film Fan moved page Mulan (2009 film) to Mulan: Rise of a Warrior) and on the rationale provided by nom it seems a no-brainer to me, frankly. I note that this is simply reversing a previous and apparently undiscussed move 20:52, 18 July 2013 Film Fan (talk | contribs | block). WP:SUBTITLE usually wouldn't apply here, but it's worth thinking about anyway. A US-centric title may be suitable for an American film, but this is a Chinese film and obviously targeted mostly to Chinese audiences.
I am usually an advocate for WP:NATURAL but the current article title is too US-centric. The film's main box office came from Asia, and as can be seen from the Asian posters: China, Singapore, South Korea Thailand etc., it's all just "Mulan". As far as I can tell, the film was not even screened in the US. I do understand WP:Natural but with so many international titles, the current title just seems too US-centric. The UK uses 2 different titles, Mulan: Warrior Princess (DVD), and Mulan: Legendary Warrior. As can be seen here, only the USA uses the current title. Mulan: Rise of a Warrior → Mulan (2009 film) – IMDB lists the film under the current title, but even the DVD cover art on IMDB has a different English title.
